Code for Sustainable Homes Service

29.04.10

Poole Dick Associates are delighted to announce they are now qualified to undertake assessments for the Code for Sustainable Homes (CFSH).

The code provides an environmental assessment method for rating and certifying the performance of new homes within England and Wales.

As of 01 May 2008 it became a mandatory requirement for all new dwellings to achieve an official rating for the Code for Sustainable Homes.

To ensure that this is achieved, the code covers the following 6 key areas:

Energy efficiency/CO2

Water efficiency

Surface water management

Site waste management

Household waste management

Use of materials

Each dwelling that is assessed will be awarded a rating between 1 and 6 (1 being the worst, 6 being the best) of how environmentally friendly and energy efficient the property is.

The code forms part of the Government's strategy to reduce carbon emissions before 2020 by 34% from the original levels set in the 1990's.

As housing is a key contributor to achieving this target, the Code for Sustainable Homes has been developed to provide the construction industry with the guidance to ensure all new dwellings are fully coherent with achieving the above targets.

Poole Dick Associates aim to offer a proactive approach to the code by utilising their extensive experience of cost management.

As the higher levels of the code require further financial investment, we have the expertise to advise Clients on how they can best attain value for money by still providing a development that is both sustainable and environmentally friendly.
