My Work Experience at Poole Dick Associates

I recently spent one week gaining work experience at Poole Dick Associates in July 2018. I am very interested in a career in Quantity Surveying and the company has an excellent reputation in this area. I first became interested in Quantity Surveying after discussion with various exhibitors at a Careers Fair at Bolton School in November 2017; one of the companies was Poole Dick Associates.

On my first day, I was invited to their Summer Sports Day which was held at the Dino Crazy Golf course near the Trafford Centre with food and drink afterwards. I was very impressed to be invited to their sports day at such an early stage in the week.

During the week, I assisted Surveyors on projects which included site visiting out of the office, attending meetings with clients and cost management of projects. I even got to wear a hi-viz jacket and safety helmet!

I really enjoyed the variety of working on different projects with all the team members. The site visits involved meeting with third parties. This gave me a better understanding of each project and how it evolves from the beginning to the end. Also, I appreciate that client relationship building and maintaining is the key to the effective completion of projects and gaining new work.

I really enjoyed the office atmosphere; it was buzzing and very lively. All members of the team seemed very motivated and focussed.

In summary, I very much enjoyed every aspect of my time at Poole Dick Associates. They are a great bunch of people who have a strong vision. I now have a much clearer understanding of what Quantity Surveying is about and my time with them has confirmed that I would like to pursue a career in it.
