Construction Cost & Project Management

I’ve met a few dinosaurs on club committees in my time but my first experience of ‘dino’ golf by Manchester’s Trafford Centre was an eye-opener. Each year Poole Dick arranges a summer sports activity for its employees and this time the Royal & Ancient game was the chosen theme, albeit more ancient than normal!

The golf purists might turn up their nose at a crazy golf course featuring giant teeth, artificial boulders and the occasional triceratops but 18 holes at Dino Falls was actually great fun. It’s a really imaginative layout, a Jurassic Park version of the traditional experience we’re used to at the seaside.

The ‘course’ was busy but it flowed quite well and provided a fabulous hour’s entertainment, followed by a meal and drinks – a wonderful team-building event all around.

Poole Dick always put on cracking events, not least because of the imagination, planning and hard work put in by our own Nicky Barrett. I’m always struck by the camaraderie between the staff and the way young and old(er) employees gel together.

A strong workplace culture doesn’t happen overnight. It starts from the top and it’s like a living organism – it requires lots of attention, little and often, to stay in good shape. Companies who invest in their people tend to enjoy sustained success.

Ignore the vibe and the needs of your people and you might just go the way of the dinosaurs!
